United charged by FA, Rojo escapes ban and are we to say ciao to Darmian?

LOOKING AHEAD

United are back in action against Rostov in the Europa League tomorrow night. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ander Herrera are available for selection despite their domestic ban. Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial miss out on the second led through injury. Rooney is out with a ‘kick to his knee area’. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford may be rested following his FA Cup run out and saved for the trip to the Riverside at the weekend. The tie is right in the balance as United brought back a reasonable 1-1 draw back from Russia.

FA CHARGE

Manchester United have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during the FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea. The incident occurred in the 35th minute after Ander Herrera’s sending off. The players surrounded referee Michael Oliver for showing Herrera the red card. United have till 6pm Friday 17th May to respond to the charge. If they accept the charge, United will likely be fined 20k.

ROJO LET OFF

Marcos Rojo has escaped an FA ban for stamping on Eden Hazard in the closing stages of the FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea. In his match report, referee Michael Oliver said that he saw the incident and deemed it not worthy of a red card. The incident comes after Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings was handed a 5 match ban for stamping on Ibrahimovic.

LUKAKU-ROONEY EXCHANGE?

With reports of Romelu Lukaku refusing to sign a new contract at Goodison, Manchester United and Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners for his signature. A deal involving Rooney going back to his old club could be negotiated as Lukaku chases trophies and European football. Lukaku is a leading golden-boot contended after an unfortunate injury to current leader Harry Kane. Manchester United are in the market for a new striker with Ibrahimovic being targeted by LA Galaxy.

CHASING THOMAS. AGAIN?

Manchester United have again been linked with a move for Thomas Muller. The previously had a world-record bid for the German rejected back in 2015. But after a difficult season, Muller is struggling to nail down a starting place and is reportedly keen on a move away from Bavaria.

CIAO DARMIAN?

Matteo Darmian may well be on his way back to Italy. He is being chased by Juventus as they look set to lose Dani Alves to the Chinese Super League in the summer. He has never looked like dislodging Antonio Valencia from the right-back position this campaign and has looked out of position at left-back. He may be offloaded for summer and United will look to recoup what they paid for the Italian. They have previously got prices for outgoing players Schneiderlin and Depay.
