Lukaku update as Jose and the players start returning to Carrington

LUKAKU UPDATE

Manchester United have reportedly sent a medical team to the United States. The team will be in charge of handling the medical of ‘signing’ Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku has not returned for pre-season at Everton and was at UCLA with Paul Pogba. UCLA was reportedly the venue for the medical. Confirmation of the transfer is expected in the next 48 hours and the Big Belgian will link up with his new teammates in LA during the Tour 2017.

SQUAD RETURNS

Manchester United’s Eric Bailly filmed himself returning to United’s training base at Carrington yesterday. He is one of the first players to be back for pre-season ahead of the squad’s departure to the States for the first leg of the Tour. Meanwhile, manager Jose Mourinho is expected to return to Carrington today and assess matters before finalising his squad for the Tour. Mourinho is set to link up with players like Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Eric Bailly who have already returned.

TURNAROUND

Luke Shaw has reportedly impressed Jose Mourinho by arriving at Carrington a couple of weeks before the squad in an attempt to get fit before the new Campaign starts. Shaw who is still out injured will be part of the travelling contingent as Mourinho believes that the 21 year old can be a world class left-back at Old Trafford. Shaw’s attitude was criticised by Mourinho more than once last campaign. But the defender’s commitment was noted by United’s staff and the news reached Jose who was impressed. Shaw is still out with the ankle injury he suffered against Swansea and a return date is yet to be fixed.

SIR ALEX’S TERRY CLAIM

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly told close friends that he would have signed Chelsea legend John Terry for free after the player left Chelsea after a lack of first team opportunities under Antonio Conte. Terry has since joined Championship side Aston Villa. Ferguson previously tried to sign Terry during the latter’s initial stage at Chelsea. Terry has since gone on to win 5 Premier League titles.

SEMEDO TO COME IN JANUARY?

Latest United transfer links suggest that Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo could be on his way to United in January. United, Barcelona are among the clubs chasing the 23 year old. Barcelona have reportedly been put off by Benfica’s £44m valuation of the player. United are also reluctant to part ways with that sort of money with big money already spent on Lindelof and Lukaku. United previously failed with a bid of around £30m for the Portugal International.
