NEW CAPTAIN

Manchester United officially named Michael Carrick as the new club captain. Carrick replaces the departed Wayne Rooney. While a new vice-captain was not officially named, it is widely expected that the position will go Player of the Year Ander Herrera. Carrick spoke of his delight at being named Captain in an interview to MUTV. He said: “It feels great, it’s such a huge honor to captain such a great club. It’s a pleasure, I came to this club as a footballer and now I’m a huge fan and I’ve grown to love the club over the years and to be in this position is very special for me.”

Ibrahimovic is aiming to return to the football field sometime around October this year. Though initially ruled out until January, we seemed to forget that “Lions don’t recover like kings.” Ibrahimovic is expected to resign with United once fit if reports are to be believed. This is another morale booster for Mourinho and his men as United may have two twenty goal players in their squad.

JANUZAJ DEAL CLOSE

Manchester United and Real Sociedad are close to agreeing upon a £10m fee for Adnan Januzaj. The 22-year-old was left out of the Tour party and latest reports indicate he is on his way to Spain. Januzaj has been disappointing after a breathtaking debut campaign at United under David Moyes.

PEREIRA READY TO MAKE IMPACT

United’s Brazilian youngster Andreas Pereira has been tipped to make a big impact at United this season after an impressive season away at Granada. Pereira, who wants to break into the first-team at United spoke of his targets for the upcoming season. He said: “It was a good experience. I learned a lot of things and hopefully, I can use them here, back at Manchester United. ‘I’m very happy I’m back and be part of this team. I’ll try to do my best to stay here and to help my team-mates and impress the manager. ‘I was focused on playing well, learning lot and improving so I can come back and to play and help my team-mates over here. ‘I can trust the people here – they trust the young players here. WOODWARD SKIPS TOUR

The man of the moment Ed Woodward will skip the United States preseason Tour to complete the signings of Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic. Woodward has delivered two signings this far and Mourinho still wants a central midfielder and a winger/attacking midfielder to bolster his squad ahead of the start of the new campaign. United have been linked with Perisic, Dier, Fabinho, and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
