United Win But Injuries Strike

SECOND VICTORY

Manchester United came out 2-1 winners against Real Salt Lake in the club’s second Tour game. Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan was enough for Jose’s men. United duo Matteo Darmian and Juan Mata picked up injuries while Antonio Valencia was given a bizarre red card. United face Manchester City next on Thursday night.

JOSE’S THOUGHTS

Mourinho was again full of praise for Romelu Lukaku, who bagged his first goal for the club in the early hours of today. Mourinho said: “When he came for the water before he scored the goal, I told him, “I love everything you do on the pitch, don’t be worried about scoring or not scoring, because it’s not important. He holds the ball so well, he plays one touch, two touch so well. He assists, he moves, he gets behind people, he attacks crosses, he works when the team loses the ball, he presses well.”

NO IDEA

Mourinho revealed that he has no idea whether Ivan Perisic will complete his move to United. Reports suggesting that a deal had been agreed on Monday night led to journalists asking Jose about the move. Mourinho said: “No idea. No idea my friend. No idea.” United and Inter reportedly agreed upon a £39.5m deal with the price eventually rising up to £44m if targets and clauses are reached. The transfer could be confirmed and sealed within the next 48 hours.

INJURY UPDATE

Juan Mata and Matteo Darmian limped off United’s victory over Real Salt Lake with injuries. Though the initial diagnosis revealed that nothing major was amiss, Mourinho shared his thoughts on the issue: “Mata has a big ankle, but I hope nothing important. A few days, a week probably. Darmian’s problem is not an important one.”

NOT GOING ANYWHERE

Zlatan Ibrahimovic probably gave the biggest indication that he was not leaving Manchester by enrolling his kids to the United Academy. Both of Ibrahimovic’s sons will play in the junior categories at United’s academy. Ibrahimovic wants to return to Old Trafford despite being released by United. A big announcement was promised by the Swede in the previous week.

SMALLING DEPARTURE CLOSE?

United and Inter Milan were reportedly deep in negotiations with regards to the transfer of Chris Smalling. This comes as a surprise as Inter were supposedly keen on signing Matteo Darmian this summer.

AMBASSADOR ROLE OFFERED

Manchester United reportedly have offered Wayne Rooney the role of Ambassador once the Englishman retires. The role was reportedly part of the contract Rooney signed back in 2014.
