Herrera to re-sign & Perisic-saga over

CONTRACT NEWS

Ander Herrera and Manchester United are reportedly deep in negotiations with regards to a new deal. Herrera even met with United executive Ed Woodward in Washington during the squad’s stay in the city as part of the Tour. Negotiations are believed to be a formality and the player is expected to sign on the dotted line soon. With the team in Manchester currently, don’t be surprised at an announcement in coming hours. Herrera is set to get a package of around £170k-a-week making him one of the top paid player of the club.

PERISIC CHASE OVER

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti all but confirmed that United’s chase for Ivan Perisic was over in comments to the press. Perisic one of Mourinho’s top targets is now favorite to stay at the San Siro. Spalletti said: “Until now, there hasn’t been any important contact. There was something you already know about at the beginning of the window [but] there was no follow-up and so, for me, the topic is over. It’s true as time goes by, it becomes more and more difficult to replace him with another player. I will strongly oppose the sale of Perisic if an offer comes.” A lack of understanding between the two clubs has scuppered the deal despite United offering as much as £44m for the 28-year-old.

RUBBISH

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett referred to speculation linking his client with a move to Old Trafford as ‘rubbish’. Comments from both Mourinho and Zidane had fuelled speculation linking Bale with a United move in the summer. Madrid plan to finance the transfer of Kylian Mbappe by sanctioning the sale of a star name has also helped fan the flames of speculation. It remains to be seen whether United will make a move for Bale this summer despite Mourinho previously saying that the move is near-impossible.

FORSBERG STAYING GROUNDED

When quizzed about links with Manchester United, Emil Forsberg revealed that he was committed to staying with the German club and helping them to another successful campaign. The assist-specialist said: “I’m totally motivated and focused and ideally want to play an even better season with RB than the last one.” Forsberg would be perfect addition at Old Trafford having lit up the Bundesliga with a sensational 19 assists to go with his 8 goals.

MATIC BOOST

Manchester United received a boost in their chase to sign Nemanja Matic after Juventus pulled out a potential move. United and Juventus were the only legitimate clubs in the running for Matic and with Juve’s decision to pull out, United may in the clear to sign the man from Chelsea. Matic has been training alone and wants out of Chelsea with a preference to reunite with Mourinho at Old Trafford.
