United Players Rated from the 0-0 draw against Liverpool

Here’s how Manchester United’s players fared in the goalless away draw against Liverpool in the Premier League-

De Gea- 8
Has always frustrated Liverpool and did it again, making a fabulous save to deny Matip in the 35th minute to keep his side in the game. Made a couple of routine stops apart from that as he helped his side earn a point. Was a bit lucky when Can shot over from just 10 yards out.

Valencia- 7
Solid performance from the skipper. An early tackle on Coutinho when faced with a one-on-one demonstrated his defensive excellence. Could’ve contributed more to attack, though, but his side didn’t maintain possession and so he couldn’t stay in a more advanced position.

Smalling- 6.5
Booked but looked comfortable in a back three. Dealt well with both Firmino and Coutinho and helped his side keep another clean sheet. Looks to have a great understanding and co-ordination with Jones.

Jones- 7.5
Another excellent performance from the English defender who rarely put his foot wrong and kept a scary attack on bay. Was undoubtedly United’s best outfield player.

Darmian- 6.5
Dealt well with Salah who ridiculed him with his skilful dribbling but the Italian defender mostly came out on top by giving the Liverpool winger no space or time to create any great chance. Stuck to the basics well.

Young- 6
Didn’t see much of the ball in an unusually advanced position for him. Was really industrious and tracked back  a lot and that was exactly why he was included in the starting eleven.

Herrera- 6
Was aggressive and powerful but didn’t do anything to overturn Liverpool’s dominance in the midfield.

Matic- 6.5
Overrun in the midfield at times but that was mainly because it was a 2 on 3 in the middle of the park. Wasn’t as effective in defence as he usually is.

Mkhitaryan- 5.5
Struggled to have any influence in a defensive set-up. Subbed off after the hour mark by Lingard.

Martial- 5.5
Another player who suffered due to a defensive formation. Rarely looked a threat as he was mostly given the task of tracking back and helping in covering the wing-backs during Liverpool’s counters.

Lukaku- 5.5
An afternon to forget for the powerful Belgian, who was invisible for most of the match. Failed to score from a glorious chance which could’ve earned his side all three points in a testing fixture.

SUBSTITUTES
Rashford- 5
Replaced Martial but had no influence on the game just like the Frenchman as Mourinho shut down shop. Looked ready for sneaking a goal on the counter but the home side didn’t give him a chance to run away with the ball.

Lingard- 5
Didn’t see much of the ball and didn’t have any impact on the game.

Lindelof- NA
Brought on in the final minute of stoppage time to waste some precious seconds.

Subs Not Used- Romero, Tuanzebe, Blind, Mata.
