United Players Rated from the 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town

Here’s how the Manchester United players fared in the 2-1 away defeat to Huddersfield Town in the Premier League:

De Gea- 6

Was well beaten for the first goal but could’ve done better for the second, as he couldn’t keep a clean sheet for only the second time in the league this season. Made a great save from Tom Ince just before the hosts took the lead.

Valencia- 5

Badly needs to work on his delivery, particularly his crossing. Made a couple of important interceptions but could’ve done better in attack.

Jones- 5.5

Subbed off after just 23 minutes as he injured himself while overstretching during a challenge. With the form that he’s in, United surely wouldn’t have conceded those two goals cheaply had he been playing.

Smalling- 5

Didn’t make any major mistakes but wasn’t an assuring presence either. Should’ve scored in the final seconds but was hesitant and so his shot was blocked.

Young- 5

Didn’t do anything apart from making some dangerous crosses from the left flank. Could’ve assisted a player like Fellaini or Pogba who have a habit of being found often near the far post.

Matic- 7

Was one of the few United players who had an impact on the game. Made some brilliant tackles and intercepted three dangerous passes. Even created United’s first chance of the game with a beautiful lob for Lukaku.

Herrera- 5

After a brilliant season when he won United’s Player of the Year Award, he’s been pretty average this season. Was expected to cement his place in the starting line-up in Pogba and Fellaini’s absence but has failed in doing that so far. After a below par performance, he invited the wrath of the boss after his honest post-match comments.

Martial- 5

Was invisible for most of the time. Was booked early in the game and was subbed off at half time after an ineffective display.

Mata- 4.5

Was at fault for Huddersfield’s first as he was guilty of losing the ball cheaply in the build up to the goal. Didn’t create any chances and was unsurprisingly subbed off after 45 minutes.

Lingard- 4.5

Started a league game after a long time but was really poor in attack. Provided nothing other than speed or energy, and it was frustrating when he lost possession so cheaply at times.

Lukaku- 6

Hit straight at the keeper after Matic created a glorious chance for him. Did salvage a poor display, which was a result of inadequate service, with a scintillating cross from Rashford’s goal.

SUBSTITUTES

Lindelof- 3.5

Was at fault for both goals, as he was easily beaten for the first and then failed to head the ball away which resulted in the second. Hasn’t looked comfortable in the league and this performance did no good to his first team chances as well.

Rashford- 6.5

Scored his seventh goal of the season with a thumping header from Lukaku’s cross. Needs only four more goals to match last season’s tally.

Mkhitaryan- 5

Came on at half-time but didn’t really do anything. Many of his through balls were easily intercepted by the Huddersfield defenders.

Subs Not Used- Romero, Blind, Darmian, McTominay
