United Players rated from the 2-0 win over Swansea

Here’s how the Manchester United players fared in the 2-0 win over Swansea City in the Fourth round of the Carabao Cup:

Romero- 7

Wasn’t threatened for much of his first game of the season, and made no errors while collecting dangerous balls and crosses. Assured display.

Darmian- 8

Was solid in defence and was superb in attack and combined well with the United attackers. His assist for Lingard’s second goal was simply exquisite.

Lindelof- 6.5

His confidence has clearly taken a blow after the Huddersfield defeat, and he was shaky in the first half. Improved in the second half but was by no means a calming presence at the back.

Smalling- 7.5

Was solid at the back and didn’t let Swansea create anything of use. Was only threatened when Abraham came on, but even he was dealt with by well.

Blind- 6.5

Didn’t have to much to do in defence, but wasted an attacking outlet by deciding against getting into attacks.

Tuanzebe- 8

Was simply superb in defence and was really confident in possession. Made a couple of brilliant forward passes but somehow missed from point blank range in the second half.

Herrera- 7.5

Was involved in the build-up to the opening goal, and he hasn’t had a better game in weeks. Protected the back line well as he opted to stay deeper. Replaced by Matic in the second half.

McTominay- 7.5

First appearance since signing a new, improved contract and he was flawless today. Made a couple of defence splitting passes and displayed some smart moves when not in possession to pressurise Swansea midfielders. Was so good that he frustrated the otherwise laid back Ki Sung-Yueng.

Lingard- 8.5

Superb game for the player who won his side the game with two brilliant finishes. Made his superb headed goal look easy, and made some very clever runs and through passes throughout the game.

Martial- 6.5

Was expected to do better against a weak opposition and despite exciting with his skilful dribbling, he failed to have any real impact on the game. Maybe that was because he was always surrounded by two or three Swansea players whenever in possession.

Rashford- 7

Beautifully created Lingard’s first goal, and sent a couple of dangerous crosses into the box. Didn’t do anything much of note apart from that and his usual speed and pace on counters.

SUBSTITUTES

Matic- 6.5

Replaced Herrera in the 66th minute and didn’t do anything wrong while protecting the back line as Mourinho’s men saw off the match.

Lukaku- 6

Dropped down into the midfield too often as he desperately wanted to, and eventually failed, to score a goal.

Shaw- NA

Reminded the fans of his existence by coming on in the 86th minute.

Subs Not Used- Pereira, Jones, Mata, Mkhitaryan
