United Players Rated from the 1-0 loss to Chelsea

Here’s how the Manchester United players fared in the 1-0 loss to defending champions Chelsea in the Premier League:

De Gea- 7

Another fine display from the Spaniard, who did well to deny Hazard and Morata, in particular, many times. Did nothing wrong for Morata’s header as his defence let him down.

Bailly- 5.5

Unusually poor performance from the Ivorian, who was found out of position many times. His long balls were nowhere good enough, while his defending was poor as well. Gave Morata ample room to score the winner.

Smalling- 6

Again, just like Bailly, he also let Morata get away for the goal as he was too busy chasing Bakayoko. Didn’t make any other mistakes and was otherwise solid. Did well to deny Morata late on as the Spanish striker tried to skilfully beat him and score his second of the night.

Jones- 5.5

Put the ball into his own net but got away with it due to a slight push from Morata. Not as reliable today as he usually is and was subbed off after the break as Mourinho pushed for an equaliser. Booked for an unnecessary challenge.

Valencia- 5.5

Wasn’t as involved in the game as he normally does, nor did he create any forward runs. Completed many crosses in the last few minutes but unfortunately none of them led to an equalising goal.

Herrera- 5.5

Was decent in defending but could’ve surely done better in attack. Was fouled a lot of times and he saw himself getting booked as well.

Matic- 5

Not many people noticed but the former Chelsea player was poor tonight. Spent a lot of unnecessary time on the ball which meant that he lost possession many times.

Young- 5.5

Has been superb in recent weeks but wasn’t too good here. Put in a few crosses into the box but none of them led to anything.

Rashford- 5.5

Missed a header from point blank range and lost possession many times. Did nothing special but Mourinho still opted to let him stay on the pitch as United were desperate for an equaliser. Most of his corner kicks were poor, though.

Mkhitaryan- 4.5

Yet another poor game for the Armenian, who’s now had four stinkers in a row. Surprised everyone by being named in the starting eleven but didn’t surprise anybody by his display as he’s in poor form. Subbed off in the second half.

Lukaku- 4

Yet another poor game for the Belgian. Saw a long range effort easily saved by Courtois and did nothing to try and score the equaliser late on. Lost possession maany times.

SUBSTITUTES

Fellaini- 5

Troubled Chelsea with his presence in attack but in defence, he lost the ball in dangerous areas twice.

Martial- 5

Had a shot blocked and that was the closest he came in a late cameo.

Lingard- NA

Came on too late to make an impact.

Subs Not Used- Romero, Darmian, Blind, McTominay.
