Romero – 8
Excellent display from the Argentinian shot-stopper. Made some good saves, and also completed some sublime passes to initiate counter-attacks. Kept his first league clean sheet of the season.
Darmian – 7
Solid performance from the right-back in Valencia’s absence. Made some crucial tackles and was good going forwards. Dealt well with Anichebe.
Bailly – 7
Another impressive game for the young Ivorian. Dealt well with whatever little that was thrown at him.
Rojo – 7
Defended well yet again and didn’t give Defoe any chance to create any chances. Good run of form for the centre-back.
Shaw – 7.5
Surprise start for the young left-back. Played very well and set up Mkhitaryan’s goal. Could cement a place in the starting eleven if he carries on with such displays.
Fellaini – 6.5
Wore the captain’s armband for the very first time in his career. Had a decent game but his booking was apparently stupid and not required.
Herrera – 7
Dominated the midfield and made some passes to split open the opposition defence. His energy is vital for Mourinho’s men, but he badly needs to work on his shooting ability.
Pogba – 7
Good performance from the Frenchman. Created a lot of chances, and made some nice passes. Missed a sitter in the second half though, as he ballooned Ibrahimovic’s superb pass when he should have definitely scored.
Mkhitaryan – 7.5
Great performance from the Armenian maestro. Scored a superb left-footed goal which looks to have boosted his confidence. Subbed off for Martial as the three points were in the bag.
Lingard – 7
First match since signing a bumper new contract. Had a good game overall. His positioning, at times, was absolutely devastating for the opposition defence. Just lacked the final touch.
Ibrahimovic – 8
Another Man of the Match display from the United talisman, who scored a sublime goal and created Rashford’s goal as well.
SUBSTITUTES
Blind (for Shaw) – 6
Came on in the second half as Shaw apparently struggled with a minor problem. Had a quiet game. Didn’t see much of the ball.
Rashford (for Lingard) – 7
Replaced the exhausted Lingard. Didn’t put a foot wrong. Scored a good goal to finish off the Black Cats in the 89th minute.
Martial (for Mkhitaryan) – 6.5
Could’ve scored a goal with his first touch. Came on too late to make much of an impact.
