Southampton vs Manchester United: Player Ratings from the stalemate

Romero- 8

Superb performance from the United keeper. Made some brilliant saves, including a penalty save from Gabbiadini. Confidence booster ahead of Europa League Final.

Bailly- 6

Gave away a penalty and spurned a good chance to score a goal. But was solid overall, and didn’t give Redmond too much space to create anything from his side.

Smalling- 5

No longer a key player for Mourinho’s side, and was shaky at times. Hasn’t been back to his best following his return from injury, and it looks like he’s doomed for the exit door come summer.

Jones- 7

Fantastic display from the Englishman, who put his body on the line to keep the scores level. His tackles and blocks were sumptuous at times.

Darmian- 5.5

Offered very little in attack on the left side, but was solid in defence and gave little space to Southampton’s attackers.

Tuanzebe- 6

Stuck to his basics- passing the ball around and shielding his back four. Impressive performance, but was subbed off as United looked for the winning goal.

Fellaini- 5.5

Decent performance from the Belgian. Passing was accurate, but offered little aerial or attacking threat. Looks likely that he’ll start the Final over Carrick next week.

Mkhitaryan- 5

Not at his usual best, and his runs weren’t too dangerous. Drifted out of the game in the second half.

Mata- 5

Hasn’t been at his best ever since his return from injury. Gave away the ball too many times, and his smart passes weren’t effective tonight.

Martial- 6

Missed a good chance when he was sent through by Rooney and wasn’t too good in the opening half. Grew better as the match went on, and came closest for his side as his shot hit the post in the second half.

Rooney- 6

Made some very good chances in the first half, first for Martial and then Mkhitaryan. Wasn’t at his best in the second half, as he was wasteful in possession.

SUBSTITUTES

Carrick (for Tuanzebe)- 6

Decent performance from the midfield anchor. Protected his back line well, which was evident as Southampton created very few chances after his introduction.

Herrera (for Fellaini)- 6

Introduced as the Belgian had an injury scare. Was energetic and purposeful in the middle of the park.

Rashford (for Mata)- 5.5

Didn’t get many opportunities to do anything extraordinary. Was pacey and well-positioned up front.

Subs Not Used- Pereira, McTominay, Mitchell, Lingard.
