Awards Night & Big Sam Agrees With Jose

PLAYER AWARDS

Manchester United held their Player of the Year Awards last night. Ander Herrera was voted as the Matt Busby Player of the Year by fans, narrowly edging out Antonio Valencia and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Players’ Player of The Year Awards went to Antonio Valencia. Axel Tuanzebe grabbed the Denzel Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year gong. Nani’s 16-year-old cousin Angel Gomes won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year prize. The Goal of the Season went to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s ‘Scorpion Kick’ against Sunderland.

SERG-ING IN

Jose Mourinho is ready to promote Sergio Romero to No. 1 should David De Gea chose to leave for Real Madrid in the summer. The Argentine has been a reliable understudy for the Spaniard and Mourinho believes the former would do well between the sticks as No.1. United have been linked with several keepers given the De Gea situation but, they might not sign anyone and go with Romero next campaign.

ECHOING JOSE

Sam Allardyce has echoed the comments made by Jose Mourinho regarding the day the final match of the campaign between the pair’s side is played. Mourinho has more than once suggested shifting the match to Saturday to give United more time to prepare for the Europa League Final on Wednesday. Now, Allardyce said: “There’s no doubt about that (that the game should have been moved). They could easily have changed it last week and said ‘We will give you the best chance to try to win the Europa League. It’s a great shame that we are not like other countries, who will bend over in fixture terms to help their teams win European competitions. We’ve all been moaning about the fact we’re not getting anywhere near the Champions League or we’re not getting anyone winning the Europa League.”

WILLIAN HINT

Willian has revealed a special affection for former manager Jose Mourinho. This has added fuel to speculation that the Brazilian might link up with Mourinho at Old Trafford. Willian said: ‘So with all of them I learned a lot. But we always have a special affection for somebody, and you feel that, that it is reciprocal of him. And we’re not even working together anymore, but we’ve become friends. And it’s Mourinho. The coach who has helped me since my arrival at Chelsea. That backed me, that put me to play, that relied on my potential that relied on my work. So no doubt I have affection for all, but Mourinho was a guy that I have a special affection and helped me a lot.”
