Details From Jose’s Presser & Update On Matic

Jose Mourinho yesterday gave the first official press conference of the season. He touched on a number of topics including United’s pursuit of Alvaro Morata.

Jose Mourinho confirmed that his side was in the running for Alvaro Morata before signing Romelu Lukaku. Mourinho said: “I don’t like to speak about players who aren’t ours because Morata is not our player. I am nobody to speak about players from Real Madrid. Yes, we have had interest, that’s obvious and it’s public. We’ve not come to an economic agreement, that’s obvious as well.”

Mourinho also confirmed that his side may resign Zlatan Ibrahimovic once the player is back from injury. Mourinho said: “It’s possible. It’s open. Of course, we wanted to be honest and open for him to make a decision in case his desire was to leave. There was not a new contract, but there was a space of time for everybody to think, feel and decide. We opened our door for him to recover with us and at the same time let’s make a decision that makes us all happy. If that is for him to stay and for us to wait, let’s say until December maybe because I don’t think before December he can get back to competitive football, why not wait for a player who gave us so much.”

Jose Mourinho admitted that his side his chasing at least two more signings. Having already added Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku, Mourinho said: “We don’t have our door closed, we are not happy with just Lukaku and Lindelof, we need more, we wanted four, so I would say 50 per cent of the job done. But I don’t want to say that because everything is so difficult I wouldn’t like to be in Ed Woodward’s position negotiating because everything is really difficult. So maybe we don’t get two, we get one but we need one more to give us more options.”

Nemanja Matic was left out Chelsea’s pre-season Tour party to China sparking more transfer speculation. While Chelsea prefer to sell to Inter Milan who are also interested in the holding midfielder, Matic wants a reunion with Jose Mourinho at United. Mourinho refused to comment on the Matic situation as he would not like to comment on players from other teams.

Manchester United will face LA Galaxy in their first pre-season friendly in the United States in the wee hours of tomorrow 16th July. Kickoff is slated for 3 a.m BST or a 7 p.m local time on July 15th.
