Transfer & Injury Updates

INJURY UPDATE

Jose Mourinho provided the most complete update on the injury front yet as he commented on the long term injuries suffered by Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, and Ashley Young. Mourinho said: “No chance of the players recovering by the start of the Premier League season. Luke is the first one to recover. Marcos will be the last one and Ashley in between. So, I would say Shaw will return in September, Young in October and Marcos in December or even January. But it is good for them to be with us and recover with the group and I have to say the group is really strong. It is important for them to be with us and not alone in Manchester.”

SIGNING COMPLETE

United completed the signing of Theo Robinson from Leeds Academy. He spent a time on trial at the club before signing permanently a while back. The statement in United’s site read: “Signed on a permanent contract after arriving on a short-term basis towards the end of the 2016/17 season. One of four keepers with the Reserves squad at the training camp in Austria – with Kieran O’Hara, Max Johnstone, and Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui – and likely to push for a place in the Under-23s and UEFA Youth League squad.”

PATH TO RECOVERY

Juan Mata was pictured training alone as he tries to recover in time for the International Champions Cup matchup against Barcelona. Mata suffered an ankle injury in United’s second Tour match against Real Salt Lake. The injury is not serious but was enough to keep Mata out of the matches against Manchester City and Real Madrid. Though still doubtful, Mata might make a brief appearance against Barcelona.

CONTE ANSWERS MATIC QUESTIONS

Manchester United’s pursuit of Nemanja Matic over the summer is no secret. Matic wants out of Chelsea and is looking forward to a reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho. Matic was subsequently omitted from Chelsea’s Touring party and was reportedly training by himself. Conte was asked about his player’s future did not say anything to quell rumors surrounding Matic’s future at the club. Conte said: “don’t like to speak about players who are still here with us.’

CONTRACT EXTENDED

Manchester United confirmed that Academy player Matthew Olosunde penned a new contract at the club. The duration of the contract is believed to be around four years and the 19-year-old was out of contract in the off season. United also confirmed that midfielder Tosin Kehinde is still with United despite rumors of an exit.
