United Players Rated from the 4-0 Win over Swansea

De Gea- 6

Had a quiet afternoon and wasn’t really threatened much apart from Ayew’s shot which bounced off the bar.

Valencia- 6

Was decent in defence but didn’t provide his usual attacking support from the right.

Bailly- 7.5

Another brilliant display from the young Ivorian, who was a wall in the defence. Also raked up his first United goal today.

Jones- 7

Didn’t put a foot wrong and was calm and composed. Looks like Bailly’s best partner. Even went close with a header from Mata’s free-kick which hit the bar, even though he was offside.

Blind- 6.5

Assured performance from the Dutchman at the problem position. Provided a decent attacking outlet on the left and was actively involved in one-twos with Rashford and Mkhitaryan in the first half. It was his corner that led to the opening goal.

Matic- 6.5

Not as eye-catching a performance as against West Ham, but he was quietly effective- freeing up Pogba which led to him scoring a goal late on.

Pogba- 7.5

Miserable in the first half but apparently Mourinho spelled a magic on him at the break. Was getting stick from the crowd and his passes and dribbles didn’t come off, which affected him mentally. But looked like a rejuvenated person late on, showing superb vision and also scoring a sumptuous chipped goal. He set up Martial’s goal as well, and had an interesting game of ups and downs.

Mata- 7

Selected ahead of Herrera, and even though he was flawless, he didn’t do anything special to stake his claim. Was quietly effective in attack though, but it wasn’t until he was subbed off that United scored three quick-fire goals. His pinpoint free-kick was unfortunate to have not found the net.

Rashford- 6.5

He knows that he’s fighting Martial for his spot and he looked desperate right from the very beginning- taking every opportunity to shoot and at one moment even tried his luck from 35 yards. Missed a great chance by scuffing a one-on-one. Nothing much apart from his usual runs came off for him.

Mkhitaryan- 8

Excellent performance from Micki, who looks like the one to watch out for this season. Set up two goals to take his assists tally to four in just two games. Has always taken time to adjust at a club but it looks like he’ll be an indispensable part of the team this season if he keeps performing like this.

Lukaku- 7

Decent performance from the Belgian hitman, but should’ve done more to create more spaces with his usual running behind defences. Did score another goal for his new club, though, taking his tally to 3 goals in 2 matches.

SUBSTITUTES

Fellaini (for Mata)- 6

Didn’t really do much apart from freeing up space in midfield and Pogba as well.

Martial (for Rashford)- 7.5

Another brilliant cameo from the Frenchman, who has put in another convincing performance. Deserves a starting place against Leicester next week. His goal wasn’t too bad, either.

Herrera (for Mkhitaryan)- NA

Too late a substitution to make a difference.

Subs Not Used– Romero, Lindelof, Smalling, Lingard
