POGBA AT THE DOUBLE
Paul Pogba won both the Player of the Month and the Goal of the Month Award at Manchester United for August. Pogba was superb in all of United’s three Premier League games, scoring twice and laying off a couple of assists. Pogba’s dinked finish at Swansea ended up as the Goal of the Month beating out strikes from Lukaku and his finish against West Ham on opening day. The Player of the Month Award is Pogba’s second consecutive at the club after he picked up the final one of last campaign.
UP FOR PREMIER LEAGUE AWARDS
Jose Mourinho is the running for the Premier League manager of the month Award for August. He faces competition from Per Guardiola, David Wagner, Toni Pulis and Jürgen Klopp. Mourinho’s United are the only side with a 100% record in the league and is favorite to pick up the prize.
As many as three United players are in the running for the Premier League Player of the Month Award as Phil Jones, Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan go head-to-head and players like Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane and Mohammad Salah.
ROM’S HAPPY PLACE
Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he does not have a release clause in his Old Trafford deal and has no reason to leave a club he considers among the biggest and best in the world. Lukaku also declared his intentions to stay at Old Trafford for a long time. The Belgian also welcomed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to United and said that he was happy to fight for his place in the squad with a serial winner of Zlatan’s caliber. Lukaku is in top form and has hit all the right notes in the early days for the campaign so far.
BALE REJECTED MOVE?
Gareth Bale rejected a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer according to spectacular revelations in Spain. Madrid accepted a bid from United but the Welshman’s persistence to stay in Madrid scuppered the move. Bale’s transfer is not the only one that collapsed because of the player’s decision as Madrid pulled out of the running for Mbappe as a result of Bale’s decision.
PEREIRA COMPLETES MOVE
Andreas Pereira finally completed a move to Valencia on loan at the 11th hour of the Spanish deadline day. The deal does not have a buy option at the end of the year and United reportedly have the option to recall the Brazilian in January. Mourinho wanted to keep the youngster at Old Trafford but accepted Pereira’s wish for more game time. The move by Jose is believed to have impressed the player. United will receive close to £4m for the temporary deal.
