United Players rated from the 4-0 Win over Crystal Palace

Here’s how Manchester United’s players fared in the 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League-

De Gea- 6.5
Kept his sixth clean sheet in the first seven league games, which is actually a record start for United. Was rarely threatened by Crystal Palace’s woeful attack but he did make a fine save from Bakary Sako’s shot in the first half to keep the score 1-0.

Valencia- 6.5
Flawless performance from the skipper, who was regularly involved in attack and was good enough in defence as well. His biggest contribution was his ability to decipher the opposition’s threat from set-pieces.

Smalling- 6.5
This was his first league start of the season. A reliable understudy for the fatigued Bailly, who was a solid wall during aerial attacks. Hasn’t really had an off-day this season and this game was one of his easiest ones.

Jones- 7
Be it Bailly or Smalling or Lindelof or even Blind or Rojo, Jones can form a good partnership and understanding with any player. He had another great performance here, and he’s surely in the form of his life.

Young- 7
Shaky beginning to the match, but not to his season as he maintained his incredible start to the season with yet another assist. Contributes well in attack and has perfectly slotted in at the ‘problem position’ for United.

Matic- 6.5
Was solid defensively, but was surprisingly shaky in the first half. His forward passes didn’t come off, and he gave possession away cheaply at times. Was much better after the break and was back at his usual best.

Fellaini- 8
Has shown his quality of being a reliable ‘Plan B’ in recent games but with Pogba’s injury and Mourinho’s over-reliance on the Belgian, he’s showing his true qualities of being a powerhouse in the midfield as well. His two goals today helped him become the man-of-the-match, but his performance had many more aspects apart from the goals.

Mata- 7
Marked his 200th Premier League appearance with an early goal, as he was in the right place at the right time to slot home the ball. Was assertive on the ball and threatening going forward.

Mkhitaryan- 6
Looked a bit sluggish but that’s mostly because of fatigue. Not much came off for him today, and he was subbed off after the hour mark.

Rashford- 8
Another superb performance from the youngster. His directness was a big threat for Crystal Palace, and his two assists were a cherry on the cake tonight.

Lukaku- 7
Seven goals in seven league games for the Belgian, who’s in devastating form. Could’ve scored a goal or two more but this was a superb performance because of his work-rate and movement off the ball.

SUBSTITUTES

Herrera- 6
Couldn’t do anything of note as he came on with a little over 10 minutes left.

Lingard- 6.5
Even though he hasn’t been prolific in front of goal, his energy and zest have been a valuable asset for his side as he comes off the bench late in games.

Martial- 7
Was on the field for only about 20 minutes but still managed to grab an assist (and a filthy nutmeg as well!). Has given Mourinho another headache after Rashford’s superb performance.

Subs Not Used– Romero, Bailly, Blind, Darmian.
