The Loan Report: Johnstone superb yet again and Borthwick Jackson suffers injury on first team return

Here’s how the on-loan United players fared with their current clubs this week-

Andreas Pereira (Valencia CF)
Replaced Rodrigo Moreno in the 82nd minute in his side’s 4-0 win over Sevilla in the league. After his introduction, his side scored two more goals, and even though he was involved in the build up to his side’s third goal, he failed to claim any goal or assist, as the player who has kept him out of the team, Goncalo Guedes, managed to bag two goals and an assist as well.

Started at left wing in his side’s 2-0 win over Zaragoza in the Cup on Tuesday, but had very little impact and was subbed off in the 70th minute. This was a chance for him to stake a claim in the starting line-up, but he failed to grab it with both hands with an underwhelming performance.

His side continued their cup run, and a win in the league means that they’re second in the league, ahead of Real Madrid by one point and trailing Barcelona by four points. They next face Alaves in La Liga on Saturday.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson (Leeds United)
Wasn’t included in the squad to face Bristol City in the league, a match which ended 3-3, with both teams ending with ten men. However, he made a surprise return to the starting eleven in his side’s 3-1 loss to Leicester City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, but was only able to play for 45 minutes as he suffered a slight injury. He was having a solid game, and despite a couple of sloppy passes, he looked confident on the ball. With Gaetano Berardi suspended, he could’ve had the chance to play in the league too, but this injury has made that look unlikely as well.

Leeds United are now 4th in the Championship, a point ahead of Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa, and next face Sheffield Wednesday in the league on Saturday.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Crystal Palace)
Was an unused substitute in his side’s unfortunate 1-0 loss to Newcastle in the league on the weekend, but played the full 90 minutes in an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Bristol City in the Carabao Cup. Playing at right back, the defender didn’t have a solid game as he misplaced some of his passes in the first half and was rash with a number of clearances as well. Still, he was better than most of his teammates, who were, simply put, pathetic.

Crystal Palace remain 20th in the league, and have also suffered yet another humiliation by losing to a second tier team in the League Cup as well. They next face West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Sam Johnstone (Aston Villa)
Was superb in his side’s 2-1 win over Fulham in the league on the weekend, and had a near perfect game. He made a sensational wonder save to deny Floyd Ayite in the second half to protect his side’s lead, and there was nothing that he could’ve done for Stefan Johansen’s first half added time goal. He also made a couple of routine saves and even averted danger by pouncing on a dangerous cross in the second half.

His side are now fifth in the Championship with 22 points, and face Birmingham City on Sunday in the league.
