Here’s how the Manchester United players fared in the 1-0 loss to FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League-
Was superb throughout the game, apart from the last-gasp goal by the hosts, which he could do nothing much for. Made many smart saves and was always available to receive back passes when needed.
Hasn’t had many poor games this season but this was one of thoserare games. He offered very little in attack and missed two glorious chances by over-hitting the crosses. Was found out of position, gifting Basel the winner in the 89th minute.
Solid in defence and didn’t give the opposition any chance to capitalise on his team’s slow reaction to counter-attacks. Stuck to his basics well.
Was superb in his first game since his return from injury, and was undoubtedly United’s best player of the game. His brilliant block in the second half stopped a certain goal and he came agonisingly close to scoring as his thumping long-range strike struck the post after deflection.
Didn’t offer anything much going forwards, and his poor pace was time and again exploited by the opposition. His under-par performance meant that Martial was left on his own through the left.
Started the game very well, with most of his passes and skills coming off. However, he came off as a peripheral figure in the 66th minute, and his substitution unfortunately lead to the home side dominating the latter stages of the match.
Tried his best but failed to break open an arduous defence. Was industrious and well-positioned but lacked the required level of creativity tonight.
Maintained position well at times, and should’ve scored on two occasions- his first cleared off the line and his second coming off the post.
Was exceptional at times, with his skills and passes coming off. However, he wasn’t supplemental well on the left which limited his effectiveness.
Worked had and tried to run between spaces but couldn’t do anything of note. Made way for Rashford in the second half.
Received a lot of service but squandered chances very easily. Should’ve scored an early one-on-one, and missed two glorious chances- from Martial and Pogba’s cross and through-ball respectively, which meant that he was rightly blamed for the poor performance.
Was solid while defending but not so good going forwards. Lost possession which led to Basel scoring the winning goal.
Came on to help his side score but was ineffective and did very little to help his side.
Came on too late to do anything of note. Linked up well with Lukaku but the final pass eluded him.
Subs Not Used- Pereira, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay.
