United ready to move for four high-profile stars
Whilst Manchester United were busy preparing for their clash with high-flying Watford on Tuesday night, the media was full of speculation linking the Red Devils with a number of high-profile signings in the January and summer transfer windows.
The possible transfer of Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann to Old Trafford was one of the most talked about stories last summer, until the France international decided to commit his immediate future to the Spanish outfit by putting pen to paper on a new deal. Despite that, the 26-year-old has refused to rule out a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano and he has once again been linked with a big-money move to United during the close season.
This time, however, it is being reported that Griezmann will not be the only big-name player to make the move to Old Trafford, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Jose Mourinho is determined to add Gareth Bale, Mesut Ozil and Danny Rose to his side, along with the Frenchman.
Bale has long been tipped to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams and with reports that Real Madrid are running out patience with the Welshman’s injury record, the reigning European champions may be willing to cash in on the player they spent £85.2 million on back in 2013.
Mourinho is also reportedly set to raid North London for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, who will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season, as well as Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, who is believed to be keen on a move away from Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Mourinho is thought to be a big fan of Ozil, who he worked with during the pair’s time at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, and the German international is rumoured to be keen on reuniting with the Portuguese at Old Trafford.
Spurs’ left-back Rose, meanwhile, would solve what has been something of a problem position for Mourinho, who has turned to Ashley Young in that position during the last few months.
Mourinho looks to pip City to signing of France under-21 international
It seems that Rose, however, is not the only left-sided player on Mourinho’s wish-list, with the Daily Mail linking United with a move for Sevilla’s highly-rated defender Clement Lenglet.
Still only 22-year-old, the Frenchman has impressed at the Spanish outfit since joining from French side Nancy back in January and is capable of playing at centre-back as well as at left-back.
United though, could expect to face stiff competition for defender’s signature from arch-rivals Manchester City, who are also believed to be keen on acquiring the France under-21 international, who has a release clause of just £28 million, a reasonable price in today’s market.
