David De Gea (6)
Defenders didn’t really give him much help, but United’s fragility at defending set-pieces is clear to see and the Spaniard could and probably should be the voice in the box to solve that issue.
Ashley Young (7)
Got to play at right-back with Valencia out injured. A silly rash challenge led Burnley’s second from Defour’s free-kick, yet Young proved a constant threat down the right through his deceiving crosses.
Phil Jones (5)
A shadow of himself in the past year (when Jones has been fit). Struggled against Burnley’s man for man when trying to shift the ball into midfield.
Marcos Rojo (3)
A nightmare match for a player lacking in confidence. Now banned due to picking up five bookings in the same number of games. Brainless tackle led to the away side finding the net in just three minutes.
Luke Shaw (6)
Injuries have provided Shaw the opportunity to make an impression at left back on a consistent basis.
Nemanja Matic (5)
Not assured in his passing. When Rojo was shipped off at half-time the Serb dropped back even further and became more effective.
Paul Pogba (6)
Tried desperately to link United’s midfield and attack through short and powerful bursting runs. Inconsistent and impatience cost him on a few occasions.
Juan Mata (6)
Couldn’t create the same impact he had at Leicester City but silky smooth style and low centre of gravity allowed the Spaniard to creep into pockets of space and become a constant nuisance.
Marcus Rashford (5)
Was surprised to see Rashford in the starting line-up. Pace and directness caused Burnley problems but indecision plagues final third finishes.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2)
Reminiscent of Wladimir Klitschko in his later years. Can produce the knockout blow when necessary but too predictable and lethargic over the later rounds. Rightly taken off for Lingard.
Romelu Lukaku (4)
Dreadful defending for Burnley’s first goal. Awful header in the second half summed up the Belgian’s performance.
Substitutes:
Jesse Lingard (8)
Unfortunate not to find the net through his close range shot which ricocheted into Pope and onto the bar. Made up with two sublime goals and won United a point.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan (6)
Getting back into his early season rhythm. For the Red Devils to find form he must be an integral part to the team.
