Born in Ashton-under-Lyne on the second of November 2007, Cameron Byrne-Hughes boasts both English and Welsh heritage, meaning that he’s able to play for either country on the national stage. The fact that he was born in Greater Manchester obviously means that he appeals to Manchester United fans who love the idea of a local lad doing well for the team. His first involvement with the Under-18s came on the bench, going on to be offered a first-year scholarship in the summer of 2024. Interestingly, he actually made an appearance for the side under Adam Lawrence, but not as a goalkeeper.
It was during a match against Middlesbrough in the February of 2024 when Ashton Missin got injured and United had no outfield players left for Lawrence to send on in his stead. As a result, he turned to Byrne-Hughes and asked him to pull on a shirt and head onto the pitch as a replacement. In 2024-2025, Byrne-Hughes made 12 appearances for the Under-18s and kept six clean sheets, then on the 28th of March 2025 he was given a debut for the Under-21s. That came in the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw with Leeds United at the club’s Thorp Arch Training Ground, showing faith in the youngster.
