When a player is born in Salford, it feels all but inevitable that he will end up playing for Manchester United if they are good enough. That is precisely what happened to Finley McAllister, who was born in the city on the 16th of July 2006. He was signed up to the Red Devils’ Academy on the first of July 2022, working his way through the youth system in the months that followed. By the February of 2021, he was considered good enough for the Under-18s side and became the youngest ever player to represent the club at that level in a game against Derby County.
He was one of five players to get their Under-18s debut that day, with McAllister coming off the bench to replay Lestyn Hughes. From there, the only way was up. By the time the 2023-2024 campaign came around, McAllister was considered a crucial part of the Under-18s team and made 26 appearances as they went on a trophy-winning campaign. As the captain of the side, he was also considered to be good enough for the Under-21s and when Kobbie Mainoo suffered an injury in the October of 2024, McAllister was given a call up to the first-team squad ahead of the Premier League game against Brentford.
