Jacob Devaney was born in Barnsley on the 11th of June 2007. Devaney joined the Manchester United Academy in spite of the fact that his father, Martin, was the Assistant Coach at Barnsley at the time. During the 2023-2024 campaign, he played for the Red Devils’ Under-21s side five times, as well as playing on 29 occasions for the Under-18s team during their successful season.
It goes some way to explaining how fancied he was by United that no other player made more appearances for Adam Lawrence’s team on the way to them winning the Under-18s title across that campaign.

In the following season, Devaney went on to captain the Under-21s side, representing them at numerous important occasions, such as the Munich Memorial Service in 2025. Although he was born in England, Devaney qualifies to represent the Republic of Ireland at international level through his family and joined the Under-19s squad in the September of 2024.
Typically tending to play as a defensive midfielder, he recovered well from an injury early in his career and benefitted from the patience in him shown by Manchester United’s Academy and all those involved in it.
