Manchester United’s history with Northern Irish players is well known. Some of the club’s biggest stars have hailed from Northern Ireland, and Jay McEvoy could well be the next of them. He joined United at under-9’s level so has already been at Old Trafford for a decade, and has worked his way impressively through the ranks ever since. After signing his scholarship in 2025, the young midfielder became one of Darren Fletcher’s under-18 prospects.
Playing primarily as a defensive midfielder, McEvoy is carving out a reputation as a composed young man who can control the tempo of a game from deeper areas, as well as deliver visionary long balls the way Paul Scholes used to hit them. His first goal game in a 6-0 drumming of Birmingham Under-18s, and he scored twice in a 4-3 win over West Brom under-18s. A young player with a good all round game.
