Manchester United Midfielders

Manchester United Midfielders

The midfield is the engine room of the team, where games are controlled, battles are won, and attacks are launched.

Control, creativity and intelligence have always been the lynchpin of any Manchester United side, and here is the club’s current roster of Midfielders.

Current Man Utd Midfielders

Mason Mount (7)

Mason Mount HeadshotA Champions League winner with Chelsea, Mason Mount made the move from London to Manchester in July 2023. Frustratingly, consistent injuries have stopped him getting a proper run of games and therefore he hasn’t ever nailed down a role in the team. The manager turnover during his time has also contributed.

Nevertheless, Mason has had moments of brilliance when he has been fit, most memorably scoring a brace against Athletic Club Bilbao to help send Man Utd to the 2025 Europa League Cup final. One of those goals was scored from just in front of the half way line.

Bruno Fernandes (8)

Bruno Fernandes HeadshotTeam Captain Bruno Fernandes has been a one man match winner for Man United more times than anyone can remember. He joined from Sporting CP on 30th January 2020, and has played virtually every game since. Bruno is never injured, never subbed, and leaves everything on the pitch every single time he plays.

Bruno Fernandes has made over 300 appearances and scored over 100 goals for Manchester United, and in 2026, he became the second fastest player to record 200 goal contributions in the club’s history. He has been one of the most influential and successful signings in United’s recent history.

Casemiro (18)

Casemiro HeadshotAlthough he joined United late in his career, Casemiro has had a huge impact at Old Trafford. He arrived as one of the most respected midfielders of his generation thanks to a trophy laden career with Real Madrid, and made himself indispensable in Manchester as well.

His contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 season, but his four seasons as a Red have resulted in over 150 appearances, 22 goals and counting, an EFL Cup, and an FA Cup. His presence in defensive midfield is reassuring for fans and players alike, and the wisdom he has passed on to the younger players around him is evident. Casemiro will be missed when he leaves.

Manuel Ugarte (25)

Manuel Ugarte HeadshotManuel Ugarte was a deadline day signing from PSG in August 2024. Known as a tough tackling defensive midfielder with an eye for a pass, Ugarte was used in partnership with Casemiro a lot in his first season at Old Trafford, but opinions on the Uruguayan are divided.

He is not a first choice starter for United at the moment, but regularly comes on from the bench.

Kobbie Mainoo (37)

Kobbie Mainoo HeadshotA product of Manchester United’s academy and a native of Stockport, and a United fan, Kobbie Mainoo is truly ‘one of our own’. He broke into the first team during the 2023/24 season, although he made his first team debut the season before, in a 3-0 victory against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

Kobbie is one of England’s most exciting young talents. He is unusually calm on the ball and under pressure, and has shown he can score big goals in big games, a memorable example being against Man City in the 2024 FA Cup Final. He is an intelligent player in attack and defence, he can dribble through defences or break up opposition play, and he is shaping up to be a key player for the club.

Toby Collyer (43)

Born in Worthing, Toby Collyer came through the ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion, before moving over to the Manchester United academy in March 2022. After plenty of success in the Under-21 team, Collyer made his first team debut in a loss to Manchester City in the Charity Shield, on the 10th August 2024.

He was used frequently in the 2024/25 season, during the injury crisis, but became one of those injured himself. A loan to West Bromwich Albion was on the cards the season after, but injury struck again. He then went to Hull City, but again suffered an injury, so has struggled to get off the starting blocks since 24/25.

Dan Gore (44)

Dan Gore joined the Man Utd academy in 2018, from Burnley, and impressed everyone as a youth player. He was given his senior debut against Crystal Palace in September 2023, and made one more appearance for the club before being loaned to Port Vale. However, he was injured on his debut, side-lined for 5 months, and never played for them again.

A loan to Rotherham was arranged when Dan got back to fitness, and despite another injury cutting that loan short, he returned for the 25/26 season and established himself in the first team as an important player for The Millers.
