Rhys Joseph Wright Bennett was born on the 30th of October 2003 in the town of Denton, Greater Manchester. He was soon snapped up by Manchester United, joining the club’s youth setup when he was playing at Under-10s level. The centre-half had attended Stalybridge Celtic Juniors Soccer School when he was a six-year-old and went to Russell Scott Primary School before joining Audenshaw High School.
He was the captain of the Manchester United Under-18s side that won the FA Youth Cup in the 2021-2022 season, scoring in the final against Nottingham Forest that United won 3-1.

Having signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils in 2022, he travelled with the first-team squad when they went on a mid-season training camp to Spain in the December, only to pick up an injury at the start of 2023 that saw him out for six months. He signed a new contract in the July of 2023, being named as part of the senior squad for an away game in the Premier League against West Ham United in the December of that year.
In the January of 2024, Bennett joined Stockport County, a League Two side at the time, on a six-month loan, later joining Fleetwood Town on a season-long loan deal for the 2024-2025 campaign.
