Rulli blasted his penalty past De Gea to make it 11-10.<\/p>\n
De Gea struck his penalty low, but Rulli was able to make the save to win the shootout.<\/p>\n
Villareal won 11-10 on penalties.<\/p>\n
The difference makers<\/h2>\n
After 120 minutes of football played, two players made the fundamental difference. Villareal\u2019s centre defensive partnership of Albiol and Torres were phenomenal.<\/p>\n
Every chance United had, the Spanish defenders would prevent. Every shot United took, they blocked. This performance prevented United from scoring multiple goals, and kept Villareal in the game.<\/p>\n
Even with the pace of Greenwood and Rashford, mixed with the creativity of Fernandes and Pogba, United couldn\u2019t get past the Villareal centre halves.<\/p>\n

When asked how Solskjaer felt after the game, he said: \u201cdisappointed, dejected, that\u2019s football.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition, Solskjaer mentioned that: \u201cwe should have built more pressure, I thought we gave the ball away a little too often.\u201d<\/p>\n
